From territorial potential to circular bioeconomy pathways

The PRIMED Digital Toolbox helps people and organisations explore how local resources, technologies, actors and business choices can come together to create circular and regenerative value.

Design pathways that work for your territory

Use connected knowledge, practical tools and collaborative templates to frame a shared challenge, test options with stakeholders and identify the questions that must be validated locally.

PRIMED Digital Toolbox

A collaborative environment for circular and regenerative bioeconomy innovation

Explore opportunities, structure a pathway and work with the people needed to make it real.

The PRIMED Digital Toolbox is a practical digital environment for people and organisations developing circular and regenerative bioeconomy pathways in their territories. It supports a structured journey from a local opportunity or challenge to an initial pathway concept: understanding territorial conditions, exploring resources and technologies, connecting relevant actors, considering possible bioproducts and value chains, and framing the business, governance and impact questions that need to be addressed.

The Toolbox does not prescribe a single “best” solution. It brings together reference knowledge, working tools, examples and collaborative formats so that primary producers, SMEs, processors, technology providers, researchers, public authorities, investors, civil-society organisations and Living Lab facilitators can compare options and build a shared understanding of what may be possible.

Use the Toolbox as a working environment, not as a final feasibility decision. Its pathways, scenarios and business-model outputs should be discussed with relevant partners and validated against local technical, environmental, economic, regulatory, social and governance conditions.
Explore

See the wider system

Discover value-chain pathways, resources, technologies, pilot examples and future scenarios. Use them to identify patterns, opportunities, constraints and questions that matter in your territory.

Design

Build an initial pathway

Connect resources, technologies, products and potential partners into a first value-chain configuration. Make assumptions visible and identify the information still needed.

Collaborate

Turn insight into collective action

Use templates and facilitation materials to bring actors together around shared challenges, future visions, governance choices and practical next steps.

How the Toolbox works

A bioeconomy pathway is more than a resource-to-product chain

The Toolbox treats pathway design as a connected territorial process. It brings together material flows, technology choices, market opportunities, stakeholder relationships, governance arrangements and indicators so that technical possibilities can be discussed alongside the conditions for implementation.

STEP 01

Start with the territory

Frame the shared challenge, opportunities, assets and local conditions that shape a pathway.

STEP 02

Explore resources

Identify available biomass, side streams and other inputs, together with current uses, quantities, seasonality and constraints.

STEP 03

Identify technologies

Compare processing, conversion and enabling options that may be appropriate to the resource and territorial setting.

STEP 04

Connect stakeholders

Consider who must contribute, benefit, decide, invest, regulate, operate or be affected by the pathway.

STEP 05

Create a bioproduct pathway

Link possible products, users, markets and value-chain relationships into a coherent configuration.

STEP 06

Structure the business

Develop a preliminary business-model hypothesis and a clear list of assumptions, risks and validation tasks.

Choose where to begin

Six connected areas for exploration, design and collaboration

Each area can be used independently, but they are designed to inform one another. Begin with the question or task that is most relevant to your work today.

Work with your territory

An evolving environment, developed with Living Labs

Version 1 of the PRIMED Digital Toolbox is designed to learn through use. Its content, pathways and collaborative functions will be improved through feedback from the project’s Living Labs and other users. The aim is not only to share information, but to support responsible, place-based experimentation and long-term collaboration around the bioeconomy.
